Customisations and Alterations

Free Customisation

Every body is different and Less Common garments are made to celebrate that uniqueness. Standard sizes work for some, but we want everyone to have access to tailored clothes without the huge price tag made-to-measure usually carries.

What this means

We customise to whatever your measurements are, bust, waist, hip, height, shoulder slope: it will be made to fit you. If the size chart doesn’t have a good fit for you can either email us at contact@lesscommon.com or select “custom” in the size field and Rachael will get in touch.

We also customise preferences. Want a shorter or longer inseam? Add it to your order notes before checkout.

We can customise for accessibility. For example on the Cockatwosie top the back zipper is not the easiest thing to do up: we can move the zip to the underarm seam or centre front. If you have any concerns or ideas please reach out!

What it doesn’t mean

We can’t accommodate style changes. Anything that fundamentally changes the design requires a new pattern draft rather than simply a pattern adjustment. For example: high-waisted shorts can’t be made low-rise.

That said, we love hearing your ideas! Let us know what you’re thinking and we will try to find a solution. We may incorporate it in a future season!

Easy Alterations

Drawn from Rachael’s experience in suit tailoring and alterations, Less Common clothes are sewn to be easily altered.

Less Common shorts are made like suit trousers which are expected to need alterations off the rack. The side seams are cut with 2.5cm (1") seam allowance and sewn in a way that makes them easy to take in or let out up to one full size.

The Cockatwosie Crop Top has 2.5cm (1”) seam allowance at both side seams, allowing them to be let out up to one full size.

The button down styles are sewn with flat felled seams which does not leave the option of letting out, but can be taken in.
